Restoration Intangible Cultural Heritage Experiential Studio is going to host
an event on Suzhou Kesi knitting technique at Suzhou ICH Shop Dongbei Street
Branch (非一般的甄选铺·东北街店) this Saturday (May 29).
With natural silk and gold thread as its materials, Kesi is a kind of ancient
silk knitting technique that is spread in Suzhou and its neighboring areas. The
making of Kesi involves wooden loom and bamboo shuttle, and the colorful
patterns look like being engraved on the cloth. Thus Kesi is reputed to be
“fabric sage”. Kesi was included into the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage
list as a major part of sericulture and silk craftsmanship of China in 2009.
Fan Yuming Embroidery Studio in Zhenhu Town, SND mainly designs and produces
Kesi, embroidery and other artworks, which are popular among lovers of Kesi. Fan
Yuming, municipal-level representative inheritor of intangible cultural heritage
of Suzhou Kesi knitting technique, will be invited to introduce the knitting
technique of Suzhou Kesi and demonstrate the knitting of Kesi with the loom.
Those who are unable to attend the event can watch it live-streamed through
Douyin account @FeiyibanFeiyi and feel the charm of Suzhou Kesi online.
Currently, Fan Yuming Embroidery Studio is exhibiting and selling its Kesi
products at Suzhou ICH Shop Dongbei Street Branch for a week. Don’t miss
